'Nuada The High King', © 1978, Jim Fitzpatrick

I am the wind upon the waves
I am the waves upon the ocean
I am the roaring of the sea!

I am the raging bull triumphant
I am the eagle plotting in its lair
I am the sunlight that creates the heavenly bow
I am the salmon that leaps from the waters.
I am the divine spark that brings life!

I am the spear that wins the battle
I am the wild boar that attacks without fear
I am the water that flows everlasting
I am the fountain of knowledge.
I am the god who stole fire from heaven!

Who understands the light of the sun?
Who can predict the path of the moon?
Who can read the secrets of the tree?
If not me?

hese are the words that open the first section of Mysterious World: Ireland, the first in a series of travel guides to be published by Mysterious World®. This series, the Mysterious World Travel Guides series, is designed to help you explore the many mysterious and exotic travel destinations that can be found all around the world. This poem, aptly titled "The Mystery", was actually the inspiration for the name of the entire first section of our first guide, Mysterious World: Ireland, as it so succinctly summarizes the concept of ancient, mysterious Ireland that we explore not only in the first section, but throughout the entire book. "The Mystery" was the perfect choice of title because, besides being a first-rate source of relevant travel information, our travel guides are also designed to help you solve many of the ancient mysteries of the world that have puzzled mankind for thousands of years.

The reason we chose Ireland as the subject of our first travel guide is because it is the perfect place from which to begin our journey to unlock the ancient mysteries of the world. This tiny island of green has one of the richest and most ancient heritages of any country on the planet, being absolutely crammed from shore to shore with ancient megaliths, stone circles, dolmens, cairns, ritual mounds, churches, high crosses, round towers and countless other artifacts stretching from Ireland's prehistoric period to our recent past. Moreover, Ireland's rich Celtic heritage has left behind a rich legendary tradition, to the point where practically every artifact has an interesting story attached to it, and new artifacts and stories are still being uncovered every day.

In the following pages, in both The Mystery, The History and The Journey sections, you will find descriptive summaries of what you can expect to find in each corresponding section of the book, along with images and quotes taken straight from the book.
